In celebration of Earth Day, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite eco-friendly clothing and footwear brands that take sustainability seriously — without compromising on performance or style. Patagonia
Renowned outdoor apparel brand, Patagonia, has been leading the sustainability pack since they launched in 1973. Continuing to make environmental strides, for Spring 2024, 98% of the brand’s styles now use recycled materials and 96% of their water-repellant products are made without harmful PFAS/PFCs. Plus, over 85% of their products have been made in a Fair Trade Certified factory, positively impacting the livelihood of more than 75,000 workers.
Allbirds
We’re excited to welcome sustainable footwear brand Allbirds to Sporting Life this spring! Known for their incredibly comfortable and lightweight sneakers, perfect for clocking miles or running errands, the brand uses 75% sustainably sourced natural and recycled materials in their designs. Focused on reducing their climate impact, Allbirds is a Climate Neutral Certified company and is aiming for a zero carbon footprint by 2030.
Veja
Celebrity favourite footwear brand, Veja, has been designing ethical sneakers since they launched in 2004. The B Corp certified company has been using fair trade practices from the start and is the first sneaker brand to use fabric that’s entirely from recycled plastic bottles and recycled polyester. With their minimal aesthetic and intentional design, these sneakers will be on rotation season after season.
Tentree
From cozy loungewear to stylish activewear, Canadian clothing brand, Tentree is all about creating ethically-crafted apparel. Sustainable fibres make up 99% of the materials used in their products and 98% of their products are eco-friendly. Together, Tentree and Sporting Life have planted 500,000 trees and counting, with every item purchased planting 10 trees. To date the brand has planted more than 100 million trees!
Fjallraven
Swedish outdoor brand, Fjallraven, is committed to creating sustainable products that are functional, stylish and stand the test of time. As of 2022, the brand uses 96% organic cotton and recycled polyester for all of their G-1000 products (a core material used in things like their Kanken Backpacks and Greenland Jackets). Focused on reducing its environmental impact through their designs, materials and production, Fjallraven continues to strive for longevity over trends.
Etica
Premium denim brand, Etica creates ethical apparel that’s not only on-trend, but sustainably crafted. About 70% of their cotton is organic and all of their fabrics are certified by Bluesign — the gold standard for sustainability. Constantly innovating to lower their environmental impact, Etica creates denim you’ll look good and feel good wearing.
