Sporting Life 10k Toronto Launches their 14th Annual run down Yonge Street
Largest Canadian Run with all net proceeds going to charity
—
November 2015 – The 2016 Sporting Life 10-kilometre run/walk will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8th. This iconic run raises funds to help support Camp Oochigeas (Ooch) a camp for kids with and affected by childhood cancer, and is sponsored by New Balance.
The run has been an annual event since 2003 and has raised over $12.5 million dollars to give kids with cancer what they need – the chance to be a kid. This year runners and walkers alike will rally around the cause to help raise over $2M.
Funds raised through the Sporting Life 10K are a critical resource that help us activate our mission of providing kids with cancer what they need most - the chance to be a kid. Without this event, the simple truth is we would not be able to run programs 365 days a year that provide friendship, fun, laughter and joy to kids and families who need our support. Thank you to every participant who raises funds to send these incredible kids to an experience that they themselves call ‘Out of this world.’
“We are excited with some great changes to the run this year which we’ll announce over the next few months. The first one is the race start time is now 7:30a.m. instead of 8:00a.m., allowing for the streets in Toronto to be cleared more quickly,” says John Roe, Director of Marketing at Sporting Life. “We’ll also be announcing a great new fundraising tool that will help participants raise funds with ease and enhance the user experience.”
For the fourth year, a Celebrity Ambassador Team committed to Ooch will also take part in the race. It consists of TV personalities and media who will run and walk to increase awareness for a charity that creates a meaningful impact for hundreds of kids with cancer and their families.

About Camp Ooch
Founded in 1983, Camp Oochigeas (Ooch) has been providing magical camp experiences for children with and affected by childhood cancer. Camp Ooch is much more than a summer camp. Ooch is the only residential camp in Ontario to offer onsite IV chemotherapy treatment and blood transfusions. Camp Ooch offers year-round programs in Muskoka, at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), various other regional cancer centres across Ontario, and Ooch Downtown in the heart of Toronto. Through these programs, Ooch provides fun and meaningful experiences to more than 1000 children with and affected by childhood cancer and their families each year. Families access programs at no cost. This is all made possible by the generous support of donors and volunteers.
